    Shelter Dog Transport Alliance

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity where you receive tail wags, kisses, and exercise, look no further than Shelter Dog Transport Alliance. Almost every week, The Shelter Dog Transport Alliance partners with over a dozen county shelter systems that are experiencing overcrowding and are in need of valuable space. When our shelters are at capacity, they safely transport at-risk dogs and cats to Northern rescue partners where forever homes anxiously await them. Because of strict spay/neuter laws, our Northern states have tackled pet overpopulation and are able to open their homes and hearts to our shelter animals in need.

Volunteers meet at Smokey Park Supper Club in the River Arts District of Asheville and spend an hour walking the dogs along the greenway to tire them out before their long van ride to the North. You don’t need to bring anything except yourself. There is no sign up, just grab a leash, learn your dogs name, and bring them back in an hour.

This past week I had the pleasure of walking “Honey”. She was so sweet, thankful, and fantastic on a leash. Honestly, I would have kept her if it were an option. The best way to learn about upcoming transports is to follow Shelter Dog Transport Alliance on Instagram or Facebook. It is one of the highlights of my week. See you there.

Yes my dog wears a life jacket.

It is kind of funny that I love to swim but my dog hates it. When we rescued Jack from Brother Wolf in Asheville, I was told he was “part lab”. Apparently, we got the non-swimming part. He is an excellent lifeguard. He is always on high alert when anyone is in the water.

This past weekend we went to my parents home on Lake Hickory just a little more than an hour from Asheville. It was a relaxing escape and perfect way to end the summer. Now on to fall!!!!

Making Hay While The Sun Shines

It has been a minute since I last blogged. As the temperature rises in Asheville (and Coeur d’Alene but that is a different story) so has the real estate market. I am seeing more Open Houses, Broker Opens and all around activity as people are making their way to Asheville to enjoy the laid back way of life. It is not the crazy, sight unseen, type of buying that we saw in the spring.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have adventures with my kids and find time to swim, bike and run. I even treated myself to a Peloton so I could squeeze in a quick workout at home.

    Hot Market

The real estate market in Asheville is on fire. This week I have 2 new listings that went live and I must say, they are both fabulous. Plenty of space and trees galore. I am still able to sneak in a bit of Ironman training between marketing and showings. It may not be my best race but I am sure it will be fun.

    NYC

My girlfriends and I took a little weekend trip to NYC. I had 3 closings the week before we left so I was excited to have a little down time. Our trip was fantastic. We went for a 10 mile steamy Central Park run on Saturday and 6 along the Hudson on Sunday. In between we laughed, walked about 35,000 steps, shopped and ate. The weather was fantastic and the people were great. Everyone was wearing masks indoors but outside you could take them off. I was happy to see the city thriving. It is my favorite place in the entire world (next to Asheville).

    Elk

Mother’s Day was super exciting. My family and friends went to Cataloochee camping. I must say that I enjoy camping with people that know how to camp. My nights of eating doritos for dinner and sitting out in the rain are over. Cataloochee is about an hours drive west of Asheville not far from the TN border. We rode bikes, hiked, threw the baseball, cooked over an open fire and had a fabulous time. In the early morning hours a very friendly elk hung out in our site for about 3 hours. He checked out our tent, looked in my car, would disappear and then reappear and even took a bag that had once contained dog food out into the field to look for left overs. At times we were scared he would charge us but he mostly lurked. It is worth the drive to the valley to see the hundreds of elk that call this area home.

    Partners in Crime

I couldn’t train for an Ironman or pretty much function without my fabulous group of girlfriends. As a social person, mixing workouts with time to catch up and chat, is a highlight. I am fortunate that so many women in Asheville are also into running, cycling and triathlons. There is rarely a time that I can’t find a buddy to join me on a run or ride. My easy going friends are happy to accompany me on a long run even when they don’t have a race in the books. The people are reason number 4897 that Asheville is special.

I’m on top of the world

I recently found out that the new bike course for Ironman CDA has a little more elevation than I thought. I decided to do some climbing on Sunday and the weather and views were spectacular. Mileage wise, my ride was not impressive. Elevation wise, I felt pretty good. I traded in my helmet for my real estate hat and stopped at a lot for sale to check out the view. I must say, road biking has taken me to some fabulous properties.

    I Can See For Miles

Last week was a pretty crazy, busy week. I have 2 houses under contract and am ramping up my Ironman training. On Friday, the weather was in the 70’s, so I set out on a 3.5 hour ride. The Blue Ridge Parkway lead me to the Craggy Visitors Center. The view from the top did not disappoint. The 46 mile ride included nearly 5,000 feet of climbing. The ride down the mountain was incredible.
