This is going to hurt.
I am the least flexible person I know. My hamstrings are as tight as a guitar string. My running/training bestie and I laugh when we stretch for a whole 2 seconds. Ironman will be here before I know it and so I decided to incorporate some pilates into my training schedule.
Today was class #1 at Club Pilates on Charlotte Street. I parked my car in the lot and did a quick 3 mile warm up run because I am a cardio addict. Once I got to the class I felt warmed up and Covid safe. The studio is spread out so I never felt close to another person and we all wore masks. The class lasted 50 minutes and hit all of my major muscle groups. One reformer exercise targeted my upper back and shoulders which I am confident will help with swimming. Personally, I didn’t feel tired after the class like a run but my muscles felt slightly fatigued. I can’t wait to see how I feel tomorrow when I wake up. My prediction is my calves and triceps will be the most sore.
What doesn’t kill us will make us stronger right?

Back to Work
Break time is over. The holidays are in the rear view mirror and it is time for me to charge into 2021. Back to work has many meanings for me today. Not only am I back in the office at Asheville Realty Group but I am starting Ironman training for Coeur d’Alene (June 27). Putting that out into the universe will hold me accountable on the days I feel unmotivated to swim, bike, run, show houses, cook dinner, and the list goes on.
The goals have been set both personally and professionally. It’s go time.

To Be A Tween
Of course I remember thinking my parents were uncool and I had the world figured out. At 44 I can verify that I don’t have all the answers. Fortunately, I have a tween daughter to educate me.
Today, we went on a girls adventure to Bearwallow Trail about 30 minutes south of town. My daughter fought me tooth and nail but I knew once she got there, she would have a good time. The well maintained trail was about a mile up to a beautiful bald. There was plenty of parking on the side of the road and payoff at the top did not disappoint. I am pretty sure you could see all the way to South Carolina.
I managed to get a smile out of the child (not captured in the photo). She even admitted it wasn’t that bad when we got in the car to return home. We took the long way back, down country roads, listening to music and enjoying the relaxing silence. It was an afternoon well spent with the coolest 12 year old I know.

Bucket List
Three of my dear friends and I set out on the Appalachian Trail for my 44th birthday celebration. I have always been fascinated by this mythical trek and had never set foot on it (even though part of it is 25 mins from my house). One of my trail running buddies mapped it out and we set sail at 7:20 AM. The weather was cold at Sam’s Gap where we started. We ran for 6.2 miles to the most beautiful bald perfectly named Big Bald. On the way we passed 6 hikers. I asked where they were headed and they said Georgia. They were through hikers. To me they were unicorns. I am amazed by people that can hike from Maine to Georgia. Just like an Ironman, hiking the entire AT is on my life’s bucket list. I wanted to stop them and pepper questions, but I just told them how impressed I was and let them continue on. When we made it back to the car, my fantastic friends surprised me with a birthday cake and Perfect Day IPA which was so fitting for the special morning. I truly couldn’t think of a better way to ring in another year.

Blogging as a Covid Activity
I really should have started blogging earlier. Frankly, it was one of those things that I knew I should do but kept putting on the back burner. Between homeschooling, mothering, exercising, real estate, keeping my house in some type of order, etc etc I neglected the blog. I also had great ambition to clean out all of the closets in my house and organize my drawers but it never happened. Oh well.
If you are going to quarantine, Asheville is a pretty fabulous place to do so. I have spent tons of time outside in the last 8 months. I dusted off my middle school tennis racquet, learned how to can pickles, trail ran on the AT for the first time, explored tons of swimming holes with my 8 year old, biked all over this town and checked out the newly completed greenway by the river arts district. I vow to run and bike on it lots and lots.
In my free time, I have loved the real estate boom we have seen in this town. I’ve learned something new with every transaction and gotten to see some beautiful homes along the way. Pretty sweet job for someone that truly is passionate about where they live.
