Asheville Rowing
I had no idea rowing was such a popular sport in Asheville for tweens and teens. My daughter signed up for an intro class with Asheville Youth Rowing that she heard about at school. Yesterday was my day to drive carpool so I packed up and headed to Lake Julian in South Asheville. I was amazed at the amount of children that participate in the after school program. Last year, 5 seniors received college scholarships and they didn’t even have a season.

A Ride On The Parkway
I have probably said this a million times but I feel very lucky to have the Blue Ridge Parkway in my town. This gorgeous stretch of 2 lane road winds around Asheville and makes a fabulous place to ride your bike. I love the beautiful vistas and mountain views at almost every turn. Ironman training is in full swing and time on the bike is enjoyable on the Parkway.

Giving Back
Yesterday, I answered the call to give blood. The pandemic ,and crazy cold weather, has reduced giving. I heard that their was a drive downtown when I was in the office. It was a quick walk to the civic center and the total process was 30 minutes. My Ironman is in 4 months so this was one of the last opportunities I had to give without compromising my training. I felt every step of my long run this morning but it was worth it.

Love
In honor of Valentines Day, I wanted to share a cool spot I found in the River Arts district. I went for a run along the new greenway and saw this spray painted container. It resonated with me because to know Asheville is to love it. The landscape, people and creativity are just a few of the fabulous things this community has to offer. We take pride in our little mountain town.

Snow Day
A lot of people move to North Carolina because they want a place that has all four seasons. In the last week, Asheville has experienced at least 3. Not even our meteorologists predicted the blank of snow that fell on February 2. My children loved getting to sled and have snowball fights. I was able to work remotely and squeeze in a ride on my trainer. Fortunately, we didn’t have to leave the house all day.

Polar Plunge
I can think of a lot of other ways to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. My 8 year old was more than happy to jump in 37 degree water at the Country Club of Asheville on a very chilly day for a cause. Not even my trusty wet suit can get me in there. Ironman will be here at the end of June and I am saving my indoor swimming for March.

Attention All Swimmers
This morning I was mixing business with pleasure. I was out for a freezing cold run and checked out a house that just went on the market. The house will be especially interesting to my swimmer/water aerobics friends because it has an indoor pool. I think my Ironman training would be much easier if I could roll out of bed and be in the water. Anyone else? Happy to show this home to anyone interested.

Spring Fever
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I was running around North Asheville in a tank top and shorts. I would describe the 65 degree, bluebird day as “glorious”. This morning I woke up to a light dusting of snow on the ground. That is Asheville for you. Spring one day, dead of winter the next. Fortunately, I will be tucked away in my office at Asheville Realty Group.

Grove Park Inn
I stopped in front of one of my favorite places in Asheville on my run the other day. Fond memories have been made at this beautiful hotel over the years. My children have loved getting hot chocolate and admiring the Gingerbread houses during the Christmas season. My family has spent many birthday dinners at the Friday night seafood buffet. In my opinion, the spa is the best in the US. I look forward to the days where I can comfortably meet a friend for a drink and admire the view of downtown. In the meantime, I will just run by and dream.

Minimum Space Requirements
This morning I was walking a friends dog in my old neighborhood and came across the coolest thing. In front of a house on Lookout Road, there was a sculpture displayed in a glass box. Upon further inspection, it looks like you can find these mini galleries tucked away in different Asheville neighborhoods. I stopped and admired the work and then continued on also checking out a vacant lot for a buyer client. Who knew I could get so much done in a 15 minute span?
